Sheet metal is an incredibly important material for the world we live in. It’s used in many everyday items from automobiles to electronics and modern life wouldn’t be the same without it. This project will be about researching, creating a lamp pattern, and optimizing its layout on sheet metal for minimal waste. First, research will be done on sheet metal fabrication to understand the options and limitations of manufacturing. Next, a design will be laid out which could be used to fabricate the lamp picture below. Finally, optimization will be done to the design layout to create minimal waste. All these steps are important in the manufacturing process not only for efficiency, but sustainability as well.
