Description

Antibiotics are a great discovery of modern medicine. They fight infection and have saved countless lives; however, we are facing a problem. Antibiotic resistance, which is a bacterium's ability to stay alive during antibiotic treatment, is becoming increasingly problematic. Most of the antibiotics discovered were found in other bacteria or microbes as a defense mechanism to deter other bacteria from entering their space. Our mission is to find antibiotic-producing microbes in soil to hopefully delay complete antibiotic resistance for all bacteria. In this semester, we will perform a series of tests on microbes from soil samples we collected, to see if there are any potentially antibiotic-producing microbes.
