Description

Research on antibiotic resistance is crucial because the rise of antibiotic-resistant pathogens puts modern medical procedures, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and organ transplants, at risk, which rely on antibiotics. The environmental/soil sample was collected from the Tomahawk Creek Trail due to its easy accessibility and its diverse ecosystem. The research conducted so far involved testing/growing different colonies derived from a diluted version of our soil/environmental sample to determine whether they showed any inhibition. Of the 12 candidates screened, only candidate 1 showed promising inhibition against Staphylococcus epidermis and Enterococcus faecalis. This candidate was identified using a genetic and metabolic approach.
