Description

My research is important because many people have become antibiotic resistant and new strains are needed for medical purposes. I chose my soil location out of curiosity what a rural ‘farm land’ offers versus a more urban soil. Taking a sample of my soil, I diluted it in the lab and plated a sample on an agar plate to look for any colonies that showed zones of inhibition. I found eleven different candidates to screen and after examination on of them (#11) showed the most promising ESKAPE inhibition. #11 inhibited the pathogens P. putida and E. faecalis. Finally, I made a smear of #11 and we will use a metabolic and genetic approach to identify my candidate and its closest relative. My hope is that my candidate can help in the medical field and be put to use one day!
