Description
Are antibiotics beneficial or harmful? The issue in the relationship between bacteria and medicine is antibiotic resistance, in which bacteria evolve to survive treatments designed to eliminate them. This growing crisis makes common infections more difficult to treat, leading to higher mortality rates and increased healthcare costs. In response to this evolving challenge, students are partnering with Tiny Earth, a student-driven network focused on antibiotic discovery, to identify antibiotics from soil bacteria worldwide. As part of this initiative, this experimental study investigates the presence of antibiotic-producing bacteria from a local metropolitan area.
