Description

Antibiotic resistant pathogens continue to be seen in medical cases around the world. In continuing the search for new antibiotic producing bacteria, we looked to a highly competitive environment for bacteria: dirt. Using dirt found in Overland Park, Kansas, I diluted the sample, identified one microbe which showed inhibition to other bacteria growing around it, tested it against the ESKAPE pathogens, and isolated the bacteria to get a pure sample. With the pure sample I was able to identify the strand of bacteria and its antibiotic producing characteristics.
