Description
Research for new antibiotics is so important in the world today because the fight against pan resistant bacteria is ever evolving, which can make even common infections seem fatal. I have tested soil microbes in the dirt from my home, and found that one of my cultures inhibits two of the safe relatives of the ESKAPE pathogens: Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This means that this microbe can help combat infections and diseases which originate in hospitals. Upon further testing, this particular microbe was found to be Gram-positive and endospore forming. A Gram-positive, endospore forming soil microbe inhibiting Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus epidermidis could be important in helping treat serious gram-positive infections, such as VRE and MRSA, and in breaking down the Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms that can grow on medical devices.
