Description
There are many bacteria all around the world, including in your front yards, backyards, homes, cars etc. Numerous environmental bacteria have the potential to produce antimicrobials. This semester, bacteria was collected from the soil, isolated, and tested against safe ESKAPE pathogens to identify bacteria that are producing a chemical to inhibit the growth of the safe relatives. A candidate named “Yoshi” was found to inhibit all six safe relatives used. The purpose of this research is to find a new antibiotic to treat antibiotic resistant bacteria and potentially save a life if not more than one.
