Description
Finding new antibiotics is important since antibiotic resistance has become a big problem. In this project, I collected soil samples and grew bacteria on our agar plates. I picked eight different colonies and tested them to see if they could stop the growth of safe ESKAPE bacteria. I will begin screening the safe ESKAPE bacteria to check for inhibition. Additional testing will be performed to determine the identity of this candidate. After screening, I performed a Gram stain to learn more about the bacteria. This project helps explore soil bacteria as a potential source of new antibiotics in the future.
