Description

A Bacillus strain of a bacteria, “Candidate 11,” was previously isolated and studied by a JCCC microbiology student. It was shown to inhibit the growth of E. coli when growing competitively. The purpose of this project was to extract the antibiotic compound produced by this strain of bacteria. The extracts were tested using various methods to confirm the isolation of and test potential application of the antibiotic compound produced by this bacterium.
