Abstract
During my sabbatical, I worked to increase my knowledge of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) through formal training and credentialing, also through retreat experiences and daily practice, and to apply that knowledge to enhance the resources and service delivery of stress management and wellness programming for JCCC students, staff and faculty. My goal was to enhance and improve related campus resources such as the written handbook on stress management, and educational programming/ curriculum for students and staff such as presentations to JCCC staff and faculty through staff development days and expansion of resources for students in high stress programs such as dental hygiene and nursing. The existing Stress Management Handbook that I developed was updated to reflect current research and resources. Perhaps even more importantly, the sabbatical allowed me the time as a counseling professional to train in a specialized field with credentials (MBCT) in order to enhance my ability to serve the hundreds of students I work with individually on a yearly basis in an area of great need. In addition, I return as an ongoing resource to help my counseling colleagues better understand stress reduction and stress management in their daily work helping students try and cope more effectively with the stress of being a community college student and persist to their goals.
