Description
The water around us is constantly being affected by impermeable infrastructure and the heavy metals associated with vehicles, which then affects nature and health. Intrigued by the large parking lots around JCCC and its basin, we took samples of water from different collection points. These were then used to determine the effectiveness of the basin's natural filtration by focusing on water collected as direct runoff and observing heavy metals as they moved from the parking lot to the basin. With our research, we can identify the major heavy metals present and suggest solutions aimed to slow or stop these pollutants from leeching off the impermeable parking lots and reaching the basin, notably the implementation of bioswales and pervious pavement
