Description

The Johnson County Community College (JCCC) basin was designed to manage Kansas rainfall by collecting runoff from surrounding parking lots, which are engineered to direct water into the basin for natural filtration. By testing post-drain filtered water, researchers can identify the presence of heavy metals, chemicals, and minerals within the sample. Multiple analytical methods are used, including strip tests, Hach kits, titration, nitrate testing, and spectrophotometry, allowing for accurate data collection and comparison of results. Maintaining the basin is essential to ensure it remains a reliable resource for water quality testing and research for future students at JCCC.
