Description
Polypeptides, being the building blocks of proteins, are a crucial part to many biological systems. The goal in this experiment was to protect and deprotect an amino acid and eventually make a tripeptide using poly peptide synthesis. The amino acid used was L-valine which had to go through a protection reaction where BOC was added to protect the NH2 group on the L-valine. This has to be done so the amino acid can be resistant in more basic conditions. L-valine then has to go through a deprotection reaction to then remove the BOC group and isolate the amino acid. After a tripeptide is made it is tested to see if it can inhibit any bacterial growth, this will show how effective it would be as antibiotics antibiotic.
