Description

As the incidence of new pathogens continues to increase in the world, so does the need for antibiotics that fight hem off. In hopes of furthering the research done on antibiotics, our class looked for answers in dirt! I collected soil from my own backyard in Olathe, KS. I performed a serial dilution to lower the colony count found in the soil sample and challenge plates to determine candidates showing inhibition against ESKAPE pathogens. From the first, 12 candidates, one was selected, for further testing, due to it's clear zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus epidermidis.
