Description

As more antibiotics are being made, the more bacteria are becoming resistant to them. So the medical world is always in a state of evolving and constant movement to try and stay at least one step ahead of these fast evolving groups of resistant bacteria. The best way to fight pathogenic microbes is by using and cultivating other bacteria that can inhibit them and the best place to find these bacteria is in nature. Dirt is the ideal source to obtain a bacterial species because they naturally have to fight against each other to be able to survive and grow. My organism, which can be referred to as Jaz, was dug up from a construction site. Through a series of experiments, Jaz has been seen to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis, which is a safe relative to MRSA (Staphylococcus aureus). MRSA has no current vaccine. Any organism that can inhibit the growth of Staph. is very important because that can be the organism that leads to the breakthrough of finding a vaccine for MRSA. Jaz might not be the organism that finds the vaccine to MRSA but it can definitely be a part of what leads to the answer. That's why Jaz is important. That's why this research is so important. To keep pushing the future of medicine forward and to keep helping people.
