Description
Antibiotics are essential in today’s medicine to prevent further infection. However, medicine has reached a breaking point where several widely used antibiotics are now ineffective due to antibiotic resistance. This experiment is designed to find antibiotics essentially anywhere there is soil. That soil sample is then serially diluted and grown on agar plates to identify potential antibiotic candidates for master plates. After screening for potential antibiotics, candidates were quadrant streaked and sequenced through PCR. The copies of target DNA were then used in Gel Electrophoresis to identify what the candidate organism is and its efficacy as an antibiotic.
