Description

Modern medicine does not have much interest in discovering new antibiotics because the capital gain from this research is minimal and there are plenty of antibiotics that are still relatively effective against ESKAPE pathogens. However, the rarity of coming across a pathogen that has multi-drug resistance decreases with more and more time and these pathogens prevalence has increased over the past few decades. Unfortunately, antibiotics are a form of medicine that is taken for granted by medicine and the general public but as the usage of antibiotics goes up their efficacy decreases. In order to solve this problem Small World Initiative has partnered with JCCC and other universities to practice isolating microbes and exposing them to ESKAPE pathogens in hopes to find an undiscovered effective antibiotic to some or all of these pathogens. I participated in this partnership by discovering a microbe I named Filavandrel that shows antibiotic capabilities.
