Description
The purpose of my study is to see if the dirt sample from my backyard has bacteria in it that is antibiotic producing. The design of my study is to do a serial dilution, to look for colonies containing zones of inhibition, obtaining pure cultures of bacteria and then ultimately see which bacteria has antibiotic candidates. Then testing on those candidates was done against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria to see if any candidates inhibit tester strains. So far I have two different colonies of bacteria that are good candidates for antibiotic producing. I will sequence and perform metabolic tests to determine the identity of the antibiotic-producing candidates.
