Description
ESKAPE pathogens, the cause of the most problematic hospital contracted infections. These pathogens are highly resistant to antibiotics, as a result many deaths occur. There is a program named The Small World Initiative that offers the opportunity for students from different colleges to unite and work towards a common cause. The main focus of this program is to find a new antibiotic; students obtain a soil sample and thoroughly examine it to see if there is any sign of zones of inhibition. As a student at JCCC, in my microbiology lab, I found a candidate that I named PK4. PK4 showed a zone of inhibition, which means that we have a potential candidate.
