Description

Each year there are thousands of cases of antibiotic resistance. The reason for doing this experiment is to try to find antibiotics. There are several ways to find candidates for antibiotics. Antibiotics are aging and becoming ineffective against several new microbes. One of the best places to look for new antibiotics is in fresh soil samples. So I collected a sample of soil diluted it and looked for zones of inhibition which indicates potential for antibiotic activity. I then picked 1 candidate and made a master plate to obtain a pure culture of bacteria, and am currently testing it against gram positive and gram negative microbes. The candidate I am studying inhibits (gram positive or gram negative) bacteria. Identification of the candidate will be determined by metabolic tests as well as sequencing.
