Description
Bacillus safensis was previously shown to inhibit the growth of E. coli when grown competitively using a cross streak method. Organic extracts from Bacillus safensis showed inhibition towards E. coli and partial inhibition towards P. putida in subsequent bioassays using TLC–bioautography. Further work to separate the components in the extract mixture and isolate the antimicrobial compound using both column chromatography and TLC will be discussed. Brevibacillus laterosporus was previously shown to inhibit the growth of E. aerogenes, S. epidermidis, and P. aeruginosa when grown competitively using a cross streak method. Results from TLC-bioautography of the organic extract from Brevibacillus laterosporus will also be discussed.
