Description
The sample of soil from behind my home just may contain the next big cure. By diluting the soil down to individual bacterial colonies I was able to cultivate and isolate the most prospective microbe based on several factors, the most important being the ability to inhibit other known bacterial strains. Once a microbe was selected it was tested and identified through a series of steps, including PCR, Gram staining, and DNA sequencing to determine if the microbe is well known or the next big thing!
