Abstract
Studies nationwide document that youth leave the foster system with a 3% chance of earning a college degree during their lifetime. These youth receive grants and services to help them pursue higher education, yet many have difficulty completing a degree or certificate. Recently colleges have created support initiatives aimed at transitional foster youth. My proposal is to provide a smooth transition from application to graduation for transitional foster care students who attend JCCC, engage them early, assist with the development of academic/career goals, and help put together a plan for success that includes academic advising, career development, goal setting, and mental health support.
