Abstract

The painting titled Mrs. Lean Arthur, created in 2002 by artist Gary Akers, currently resides at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Missouri. It is watercolor on paper and measures at 26 x 17 and a half inches. Mrs. Lean Arthur is a portrait of an older Black woman, masterfully weaving together lights and darks to give the viewer a glimpse into her unshakeable character, the impact her career has had on her life, and the importance of the many deliberate items placed around her silhouette.
