Description

Antibiotic resistance is a global issue that everyone of us is included. I hope that I can add a little brick on the defense system against antibiotic resistance. There are billions of them and there are millions of us. Together, we win. I abstained my soil sample from my garden along with potting soil mix from Home depot. In my microbiology lab, I used the soil sample performed a soil dilution up to ten to the negative six power and was able to pin point 18 candidates. Then I used the 6 tester strains of the ESKAPE pathogens’ safe alternatives, to see whether my candidates have inhibition on any of the tester strains. I found 5 qualifying candidates with two of them inhibit 2 or more tester strains. This is exciting discovery for my personal experience. I made streak plates on 2 of my qualifying candidates. Candidate number 2 is Gram positive Gram variable, rod-shaped, spore forming-potential bacteria. I will do spore staining, acid fast staining, PCR genetic sequencing in the future.
