Description

My research project is important due to the fact that bacteria are constantly mutating and becoming ABT resistant. Many antibiotics originate from bacteria. Only a small fraction of bacteria have been isolated and cultured. The goal of my project is to identify a local soil microbe taken from my garden and test against known bacteria for zones of inhibition. My project so far has led to a local soil bacteria (CD3SP19) that has produced a zone of inhibition against P. putida. I would like to identify this bacterium and further test the resistant properties of this bacteria.
